Kim has been a high school science teacher for sixteen years, currently teaching AP Biology, A&P, Chemistry and dual-credit courses at Trigg County High School in western Kentucky. She earned National Board certification in 2010, and has served as an AP Biology exam reader for six years. While engaging students in Biology is her passion, she also enjoys international travel and mission trips with young adults and spending time with her family.

Katrina, who has been a high school teacher for six years, currently works in a hybrid role – teaching English at Shelby County High School in Shelbyville, KY and working half-time as a Teacher Leader on Special Assignment with the Kentucky Department of Education. Katrina also works as a Teacher Fellow for the America Achieves Fellowship for Teachers and Principals and a Teacher Champion for the Collaborative for Student Success.

Robin Burr

Robin Burr has been teaching for 18 years at both the elementary and middle school level.  She is currently teaching math, science, and engineering, and has been recognized as the District Teacher of the Year at Whitley and Knox Counties in Kentucky and Hoke County, North Carolina.  She also won the Campbellsville University Kentucky Teacher of the Year and was a Disney Teacher of Year finalist. Her specialty is Lego Engineering and bringing a love for rigorous learning through high engagement. She is a trainer for NEA, KEA, LTF, Bluegrass Center for Teacher Quality, ECET, and Talk.

Del Ehemann is in her twelfth year of teaching Chemistry, and in her seventh year at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Del serves as Science Department Chair at Highlands, and serves on various leadership committees. She also serves as an LTF Science Content Consultant for AdvanceKY and as an AP Chemistry consultant, traveling around the Commonwealth teaching students from a variety of backgrounds.

Robin has been a Math teacher for 23 years and is currently teaching at Franklin-Simpson High School. She achieved National Board status in 2014, and is also the sponsor for her local chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. In her free time, Robin enjoys reading, swimming, and traveling.

Angela Gunter, NBCT, teaches AP English Language at Daviess County High School and serves as a hybrid Teacher Leader on Special Assignment for KDE. She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership, leads the Kentucky Student Growth Project, is a Kentucky ELA Core Content Lead with Student Achievement Partners, a state CTEPS trainer and a 2015-2017 Hope Street Group teacher fellow. Angie is a past president and current treasurer for the Kentucky Council of Teachers of English. She’s been involved with the Activating Teacher Leadership Institute and is a member of the Innovative Teacher Leader cohort with the Fund for Transforming Education. Angie is also a Candidate Support Provider for teachers pursuing National Board teaching certification.

Adam Hicks is currently serving as the Assistant Principal of Simpsonville Elementary, and is in his tenth year of education. Before becoming an administrator, Adam was an English teacher, having taught English I-IV as well as AP English Language and Literature. Adam is a National Board Certified Teacher, and was recognized as the WHAS ExCEL Teacher of the Year in 2015 for Shelby County Public Schools. Beyond his work in the classroom, Adam is also the LTF English Content Coordinator for AdvanceKentucky, as well as a regional and national English teaching consultant.

Lauren Hill

Lauren Hill is currently the Teacher Leadership Coordinator at the Kentucky Department of Education, on leave from Western Hills High School where she taught English for 18 years. An NBCT, Lauren also coaches teachers in virtual community building for the Center for Teaching Quality, and is the founder and director of Classroom Teachers Enacting Positive Solutions, an action research-based teacher leadership program in Kentucky. Lauren graduated with a BA in History from Barnard College at Columbia University, and also holds an MA in English Education and Curriculum Design from Vanderbilt University. She also completed her Rank I at the University of Kentucky with a focus on English and technology.

Kristie Hofelich Ennis is currently in her ninth year teaching English in Jefferson County. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in English Education from the University of Louisville as well as her Library Media certification from Western KY University. Kristie earned her National Board Certification in ELA/YA in 2011 and serves on the board as conference chair for the KY Council of Teachers of English. Spreading a love for learning, developing lifelong readers, and mentoring willing teachers is her passion.

Jana taught many combinations of mathematics, general chemistry, pre-AP chemistry and AP chemistry before retiring after 31 years of teaching. She was the first in her area to introduce a pre-AP science course when she started teaching pre-AP chemistry 15 years ago. During the time Jana was teaching at Bowling Green High School, the school became a member of AdvanceKY’s Cohort 2. Jana served as Science Content Coordinator and AP consultant for AdvanceKY as well as becoming an endorsed Laying the Foundation trainer. She also served on the SBDM committee at Bowling Green High for six years. . After retiring in 2011, she joined AdvanceKY as the Science Content Manager. Jana graduated from Western Kentucky University with a B.S. and M.S. in chemistry along with her secondary school teaching certification in chemistry and mathematics.

Kellie Lee is a Mathematics teacher at Glasgow High School.  In her 15 years as an educator, she has taught Exceptional Education and a variety of Secondary Mathematics courses.  She earned her undergraduate degrees in Exceptional Education, Elementary Education and Secondary Mathematics and a graduate degree in Exceptional Education from Western Kentucky University.   She serves as the Mathematics LTF Content Consultant, a Regional Content Advisor in Mathematics and an AP Statistics consultant for AdvanceKY.  Kellie has a real passion for learning and likes to share her classroom successes with her colleagues throughout the state.

Jamie Mills

Jamie Mills has spent the last 21 years teaching English at Clay County High School. He has spent most of that time teaching both pre-AP and AP classes. Mr. Mills has also been an adjunct instructor at EKU since 1997. For the past six years, Jamie has been involved with Advance Kentucky’s Laying the Foundation program, both as a participant and as a trainer. He became a nationally endorsed NMSI trainer in 2012.

Steve Mintner began his career in Indiana, teaching 11 years before leaving the classroom for seven years as a consultant. During that time he worked with schools in 44 states and Canada and helped schools lower achievement gaps by over 20%. In 2009, Steve returned to the classroom in Kentucky. As an AP Biology, AP Chemistry and AP Environmental Science teacher at the high school level, he had many students achieve passing scores. Steve has also been a middle school department head, and helped his school's 7th grade KPREP science scores go from the 51st percentile to the 99th percentile in three years. Steve currently teaches AP Environmental Science at Castle High School in Newburgh, Indiana.

Debbie Murphy is a retired AP Biology, Biology and Chemistry teacher with 29 years experience in Jessamine County Schools. During her tenure she served as a department head for five years and served 16 years as the curriculum/instructional leader for the science department at East Jessamine High School.

Coury is currently an English instructional coach for Marion County Public Schools for grades 6-12. Prior to her role at the district level, she taught English for twelve years at Marion County High School. She has held many roles within AdvanceKY  including Content Coordinator and Regional Advisor, and in 2010, she was the first recipient of NMSI All-American Teacher of the Year Award for Kentucky in English. She received her National Board Certification in 2007, and is currently in the middle of the renewal process. She has been a trainer for Laying the Foundation since 2009, and uses the materials regularly.

Diana is in her 17th year in education. She has 16 years experience teaching kindergarten, first, and fifth grades. She is currently the Curriculum Specialist for Cloverport Independent School System. Diana renewed her National Board Certification in 2015 in EC/GEN. She is currently working towards an administrative certification from WKU. Her professional focus is building teacher capacity in high quality instructional strategies that engage learners.

Jason Simpson teaches English at Marion County High School, including AP Literature and pre-AP English II.  Additionally, he also serves as the advisor for the high school’s renewed school newspaper, The Shield, and teaches a journalism class in conjunction with producing the school paper.  During the summer, Jason serves as an LTF training consultant. Recently, he was awarded Campbellsville University’s Excellence in Teaching Award.

Reva, who is Nationally Board Certified in Adolescent and Young Adulthood Mathematics, has been teaching high school mathematics for 17 years.  She currently teaches Dual Credit College Algebra, Trigonometry, and pre-Calculus as well as AP Statistics and Calculus AB.  Reva just completed her first year as an AP Statistics Reader at the 2016 Kansas City Reading.

Emily currently teaches at Marion County High School in Lebanon, Kentucky. She has taught freshmen, sophomore, and senior English while at MCHS, and is currently teaching pre-AP.   She started LTF Training before her first year of teaching and states, “It was the best resource I could have asked for going into my first year. I was given so many resources, and also made some important connections. I don't know how I would have made it through my first year of teaching without Laying the Foundation. Becoming a trainer was a great opportunity for me to share my passion for LTF with other educators. It's also a great way to constantly learn more about the resources that LTF has to offer." Emily is the Beta Club, Key Club, and Pep Club sponsor. Emily loves being involved in her school and community. She is a graduate of Marion County High School and the University of Louisville.

Dr. Verdecchia graduated from Berea College with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Later he obtained his Master’s and PhD  in Animal Sciences from the University of Kentucky.  After working for three years in the food industry as a consultant Quality Assurance inspector, Dr. Verdecchia completed his Master’s in Science Education (MIC) from the University of Kentucky. He has been teaching for sixteen years at Bryan Station High School. He has served as the Science Department chair for the past seven years. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, as well as traveling, cooking, and playing tennis.
